The newly elected speaker of southwest regional parliament, Ambassador Ali Saed Faqi has on officially assumed office on Saturday.
Former house speaker, Abdikadir Sharif Maye handed over the power to the new speaker in a brief ceremony that took place at the assembly building in the interim administrative capital, Baidoa.
Ambassador Faqi thanked the former house leader for the smooth transition of power whereas requesting his experience to help him better serve the office.
Former Somali ambassador to the European Union was overwhelmingly elected as new regional parliament speaker last month following elections.
Ambassador Faqi garnered 83 votes out of possible 95.
The former speaker Abdulkadir Sheikhuna Maye who served the region since 2015 has since been appointed as state minister for trade and industries by Prime Minister, Hassan Ali Kheyre.
