Somalia’s National independent and Elections Commission chairperson, Halima Ismail is today expected to appear before the parliament.
According to sources privy to the development, Ms. Ismail will brief the lawmakers about plans to steer the country towards elections.
Ismail will also table the plans and proposals of agency ahead of elections of 2020-2021.
The Horn of African nation is expected to hold parliamentary elections in October while presidential polls will take place in February 2021.
The electoral body launched a five-year roadmap in 2018 to help guide the management and administration of the country’s ‘one-person, one-vote’ elections in 2020-2021.
Meanwhile, Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo is expected to lead a crucial security meeting between the federal government and leaders from the federal member states next month.
The meeting scheduled for July 5 to 8 in Mogadishu will discuss the elections, security, the fight against al-Shabaab, elections, the constitutional review and economic development.
