The President of Southwest state of Somalia, Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed alias Lafta Garen has unveiled new plans aimed at opening the main supply routes linking Mogadishu and Baidoa.
The routes between the two cities were blocked by the armed group al βShabaab to prevent the advance of Somali security forces in the areas under their control.
President Lafta Garen stated that new security forces trained in Mogadishu will soon be deployed to the region to clear the blockade imposed by the militant group al-Shabaab.
His remarks came days after the graduation of new recruits trained in Mogadishu.
Southwest regional leader underlined that the federal government and the international partners will work with his administration to conduct biometric registration of the new security forces before embarking on the security operations.
