MOGADISHU, Somalia — Chairman Abduqadir Mohamed Nur has commended outgoing U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Somalia, Justin Davis, for his contribution to strengthening relations and cooperation between Somalia and the United States.
Chairman Abduqadir thanked Davis as he concluded his diplomatic assignment in Somalia, praising his role in advancing bilateral relations between the two countries.
“I thank Mr. Justin Davis, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Somalia, who has concluded his diplomatic assignment in Somalia. I commend him for his role in strengthening relations and cooperation between Somalia and the United States,” Chairman Abduqadir said.
The remarks came as Mogadishu hosted a farewell reception for Davis, who is concluding his tenure as U.S. Chargé d’Affaires. He is being succeeded by Ruth Anne Stevens-Klitz.
Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdiqadir Ducaale, also attended the farewell reception in Mogadishu.
The minister thanked Davis for his diplomatic service and his contribution to advancing cooperation and relations between Somalia and the United States.
Minister Ducaale also welcomed Ruth Anne Stevens-Klitz, who is taking over as the new U.S. Chargé d’Affaires in Somalia.
During the engagements, discussions focused on the longstanding relationship between Somalia and the United States and ways to further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the areas of security, counterterrorism and parliamentary cooperation.
The transition comes as Somalia and the United States continue to maintain close cooperation on security and other areas of mutual interest.
