African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has admitted that an ambush by al-Shabaab fighters on its convoy in Janale town caused collateral damages.
In a statement, AMISOM Head, Francisco Madeira said the clash with Al-Shabaab has caused civilian casualties.
The mission said the forces repelled the attack and forced the militants to retreat.
“Our AMISOM Forces on a tip off, engaged the terrorist and unfortunately, some civilians were caught in a line of fire resulting in casualties,” the statement read in part.
The fighting three women were killed while two others were injured and undergoing treatment in the AMISOM hospital.
Madeira has extended condolences to the families and relatives of the victims, termed the incident ‘unfortunate’ .
“We would like to render our sincere apologies and heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wish the injured a speedy recovery,” he said.
