Organizational Background:

The World Food Programme Somalia activities include relief assistance, safety-net support including school feeding, nutrition programmes and livelihood support through provision of in-kind and cash-based transfers and capacity strengthening.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Programme Lead, and overall supervision of the head of field office in Baidoa, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties;
- Contribute towards the development of projects, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider Programme policies and guidance;
- Provide project management support to specific and defined programmes and projects ensuring a coordinated approach with wider programmes that aligns with WFP standards and procedures;
- Follow data gathering and monitoring systems ensuring that thorough quality standards are maintained;
- Research and analyse policy and operational issues to support senior colleagues in the development of policies, programmes and activities;
- Contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on programmes and activities that enable informed decision making and consistency of information presented to partners;
- Liaise with internal counterparts to ensure effective collaboration and monitor ongoing projects;
- Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners, and national government to prepare for and respond to food assistance needs;
- Support the identification, development and management of potential partnerships to collaborative working leading to improved food assistance packages;
- Prepare periodic reports on the progress of operational projects and programmes and ensure compliance with WFPβs policies;
- Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualification:
Education: Advanced University degree in the following fields: International Affairs, Economics, Nutrition/Health, Agriculture, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, development studies or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/ or trainings/ courses.
Experience: At least one year of postgraduate professional experience in the related field has gained experience in implementing key program portfolios (nutrition, relief, resilience etc.) and provided inputs into designing operations. Has provided input into policy discussions and decisions
Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Somali is a requirement.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Good analytical skills, resourcefulness, initiative, the maturity of judgement, negotiating skills
- Good computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet and other standard WFP software packages and systems. General knowledge of UN system policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration.
- Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, ability to work in a team, and establish effective working relations with persons, deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.
