
Officials in the Tigray region of Ethiopia have said that their fighters have left their areas in the neighboring region to prevent a major attack from the north.
Pro-government forces and the Tigray-led TPLF resumed fighting in late August after a five-month ceasefire.
The latest war also resulted in the Eritrean army joining in supporting the Ethiopian federal forces and loyalist militias.
Tigray officials said late yesterday that the withdrawal of troops from parts of the Amhara region in the south of Tigray region was necessary to prevent the intensifying war in the north.
An Amharic government official told AFP that the TPLF opposition had left some towns in the region.
The current fighting resumed on August 24 and ended a ceasefire that had been in place since March
The war has been going on for almost two years and thousands of people have died, and human rights violations have been recorded by all sides.
