MOGADISHU, Somalia — September 7, 2026 — The National Forum on Media Relations Strategy 2026 is expected to officially open shortly in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
The conference brings together senior officials from federal government media institutions, media representatives from Somalia’s federal member states, private media organizations, media development partners, academics, and other stakeholders involved in the country’s media sector.
The forum is being organized by the Federal Government of Somalia’s Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. It is expected to be attended by the Federal Minister of Information, ministers responsible for information and media affairs from the country’s federal member states, and heads of various media institutions.
Prime Minister of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, is also expected to officially open the conference.
The 2026 gathering is the second national forum of its kind to be held in Somalia. Discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation and coordination within the media sector and developing a strategy to advance Somalia’s modern and digital media landscape.
During the conference, participants are expected to discuss the current state of Somalia’s media industry, key challenges facing media organizations, opportunities for sector development, and ways to strengthen cooperation between government institutions, private media outlets, and media development organizations.
The forum is also expected to produce recommendations and strategic plans aimed at strengthening and developing Somalia’s media sector, while taking into account rapid technological changes and the evolving nature of modern media.
The conference is seen as an important platform for media stakeholders to exchange ideas, coordinate priorities, and develop a common strategic vision for the future of Somalia’s media industry.
